Engineers have always been problem solvers, but today’s emphasis on collaborative work that transcends traditional departmental boundaries brings together the best minds from across the disciplines. In academic year 2009-10, there are 40 tenured and tenure-track faculty in the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). Our college consists of the School of Electrical Engineering and the School of Computer Science. We are participating in the "Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea" (ABEEK), and the graduates awarded ABEEK would be expected to have more academic mobility at an international level. ABEEK and ABET(Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) of the United States are a full signatory of the Washington Accord.

The IT industries in Korea and in the world are now facing new challenges from many aspects. Today, we observe the convergence occurring everywhere including devices, networks, services, and operators. Also, we realize the IT convergence with other industries such as automotive, shipbuilding, heath care, construction, energy and so on. Thus, the researchers and engineers from diverse fields need to collaborate more than ever to keep the pace of the advancements of the IT technologies. With these perspectives, the College of EECS aims to educate students, who are not only good at fundamentals of their majors, but also are well equipped with the knowledge required to work in the global information and communication technology society.

We have excellent faculty, dedicated staff, and engaged students and alumni. The college's network of living alumi numbers more than 8,000 around the globe. Our undergraduate enrollment now numbers more than 1,200. We operate some national research centers and projects including Energy-IT ITRC, LED-ID project, NRL project and several industrial research centers and projects including Samsung Electro-mechanics Power Center and Samsung Electronics Power Research Center. We also have several student exchange programs with Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Florida, and Iowa State University in order to provide students with an opportunity to study abroad. We provide various programs such as one or two semester study programs, dual BS degree programs (2+2), and undergraduate plus graduate (4+2) programs.

We invite you to explore our college, both online and in person. We welcome the opportunity to share with you. This is a most exciting time. I am honored to be leading the college.
